The Valency Lexicon of Czech Verbs VALLEX is put together by the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics of Charles University in Prague. The process was started in 2001. VALLEX is available both in printed (2008) and electronic versions (free of charge). At present, Russian and Polish counterparts of some Czech verbal lexical units are defined for VALLEX in the Institute of Slavonic Studies of the Academy of Sciences of Czech Republic. The article presents basic rules of the Czech lexical units‘ selection and ways of searching for their counterparts - a lexical unit capable of being a part of lexi-calized alternations. It shows problems related to defining Russian and Polish lexical units: correct choice of counterparts, approach to aspectual counterparts, application of the Czech system of diatheses to description of the Russian and Polish verbs. VALLEX with Polish and Russian counterparts will provide great material for comparative research of morfological, syntactic, and semantic properties of the verbs from these languages: differences in the forms of inner participants or free modifications, possibility of superficial realization, ability to be a part of grammaticalized or lexicalized alternations.
