The article deals with the theory of E. Zamyatin’s synthetism in the context of modern neorealistic concepts and synthesis of arts. The particular attention we have paid to the origin of the term “synthetism”. There is a suggestion that this term is linked with the name of post-impressionistic pictorial art school. We also have emphasized that Zamyatin’s interpretation of the concepts "realism" and "symbolism" needs commentaries. Besides, the article reveals the unexpected rapprochements of E. Zamyatin’s statements and literary characters of A. Grin, which gives the reason to ascertain the popularity of Zamyatin's ideas in the 1920s.
