Synthesis of grignard-like cymantrenyl derivatives of divalent samarium and ytterbium and their reactions with aldehyde and ketones

The article presents data on the synthesis and study of the reactivity of divalent samarium and ytterbium derivatives of cymantrene. It is shown that regardless of the structure and nature of the organic radical, the products of the interaction of aldehydes (ketones) with cymantrene, samarium, and ytterbium derivatives are not carbinol derivatives of cymantrene, but due to the redox process, the corresponding alkenyl derivative. Thus, the synthesis of Grignard-like derivatives of ytterbium and samarium in a THF solution was carried out. Their reactivity with ketones and various aldehydes was also studied. It was established that the samarium and ytterbium compounds decompose above 110°C and 120°C, respectively.
