System of key settlements as a basis for spatial development of the Russian Federation

One of the priority areas of spatial development of the Russian Federation is the creation of key settlements. This topic is of the highest relevance due to the need for theoretical and practical consideration of the phenomenon of a key settlement in the context of regions’ socio-economic development. The study is aimed at consideration and comprehensive assessment of various factors, including the geographical location, availability of resources, development potential, and demographic situation that affect the functioning of key settlements. We have reviewed the main stages of development of the phenomenon of a key settlement, as well as its role for the regions and prospects. The study, has identified the most effective opportunities for the functioning of key settlements in the context of strategic regional development of the Russian Federation.
