The system of work of the teacher on development of educational and research skills of students in studying disciplines of the mathematical cycle

Based on federal documents regulating the activities of the education system and the results of the analysis of research in the field of pedagogy and psychology, the article substantiates the need for targeted work to develop educational and research skills in junior university students. The paper considers this problem using the example of a technical university in light of identifying the potential of mathematical disciplines. Definitions of basic concepts are presented: “research activity”, “students’ educational and research skills”, “educational and research task”. The author’s system of step-by-step development of educational and research skills in first- and second-year students when studying mathematical disciplines is described. The tasks and areas of work are identified by stages: the first is developing motivation for learning, increasing the level of students’ basic knowledge, developing basic educational and research skills; the second is expanding the range of methods of educational and research activity used by students; the third is teaching solving educational and research problems; the fourth is the transition to working on solving problematic problems; the fifth is the use of creative and research tasks. A preliminary conclusion is made about obtaining positive results from the implementation of the developed system, which determines the prospects for further search for ways to improve it.
