Introduction. To effectively manage the cadets' extra-class independent work when studying a foreign language it is essential to apply both traditional methods of organization of learning and the new approaches and means. Their rational combined usage shows the effectiveness not only of extra-class independent work, but also of all educational activities. The aim of the research is to design the system of management of cadets' independent activities and form the skills necessary for independent work. Materials, methods and results. Diagnostic group map (DGM), survey and observation are the main methods to determine the effectiveness of the developed management system. DGM is developed on the basis of methods of Eysenck extroversion-introversion and neuroticism test, Spielberg anxiety test, various questionnaires, tests, etc. The developed and implemented system of management of extra-class independent work made it possible to increase the cadets' interest in foreign language learning, to determine the readiness to perform tasks assigned by the program for extra-class independent work, as well as to identify the levels of development of internal motivation to perform this work. The management system is considered in the relationship between the managing and managed subsystems. The complex of interactions between effective forms, methods and functionality of cadets is the first and fundamental object of management. Monitoring and evaluation of these interactions are considered as the second object. The final object is the methodological support. Conclusions. The suggested management system can be recommended for improvement of managing extra-class independent work when studying a foreign language. Consideration of cadets' individual characteristics and personal cognitive interests makes it possible to effectively manage extra-class independent work.
