The article substantiates the relevance of using independent work as a unique form of developing the competencies of students at a vocational pedagogical university and the basis for their further professional development and self-development. The author has developed the systemic-functional model for the development of competencies in the process of independent work, which makes it possible to effectively organize the implementation of professional training within the framework of independent work of students, as well as stimulate the processes of self-development and self-education of young specialists at the present stage of development of production and education.
