Systematic approach to translating sports metaphors in American political discourse

This article examines the concept of the sports metaphor in American political discourse and the interac-tion between sports and politics. It also analyzes techniques for translating American sports metaphors into Russian and the choice of translation decisions, taking into account the context and functions of the sports metaphor (cognitive, communicative, and pragmatic). It also explores ways to preserve metaphorical imagery when translating sports meta-phors, and identifies challenges for achieving an adequate communicative effect. A comparative analysis of the original texts of political discourse in English and the texts of their translation into Russian revealed a number of features of the translation of the sports metaphor from English into Russian.
