The story of the classic of children's Russian literature Yu. Yakovlev's “Awakened by nightingales” in this article is the subject of a special and detailed consideration for the first time. The plot of the story unfolds in a summer camp, where the world of children seeking for freedom and play and adults adhering to strict rules and discipline collides. At the center of the story is a boy named Selyuzhenok, who ignores the demands of adults and constantly violates the order, which makes his actions incomprehensible to educators. The culmination of the story is the moment of awakening in the village of interest in creativity and communication, caused by the singing of a nightingale. The event of amazement turns out to be a revelation that changes the idea of the importance of relationships with both nature and the people around us. The plot situation of amazement is a key moment in the transformation of the character of the hero. Based on the interpretation of the story by Yu.Yakovlev takes the first step towards the typology of the factors of transformation of the character of literary heroes. We believe that the depicted amazement manifests itself as a reaction of the hero and serves as a catalyst for changes in the character's character. Amazement can act as a plot situation as an event that occurs unexpectedly for the characters and for the reader, disrupts the usual order of things and pushes for further development of the plot. The appearance of a nightingale outside the window at the culmination of the story “Awakened by Nightingales” indicates that amazement as a chronotopic feature of the artistic world is integrated into the structure of time and space. In the story the hero's justification and the happy ending accentuates the inner eventfulness of the act and indicates a change in the point of view not only of the boy, but also of adults.
