The article studies intermedial transformations of the Town Musicians of Bremen, a fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, in Russian animation and stage adaptation. The animated film directed by I. Kovalevskaya (1969), its sequel directed by V. Livanov (1973) and the stage adaptation of Perm Academic Theatre-Theatre directed by D. Salimzyanov (2011) are compared. The study concludes that both musical animated movies are based upon the Grimms‘ fairy tale, unleashing its narrative and intermedial potential, and the musical theatre performance adapts these animated movies (and two vinyl records that included both the songs and the verbal description of the plot) to the theatre stage. Original and creative transformation concerns mostly the visual part of the performance that is influenced by steampunk aesthetic, this being evident from its costumes and props.
