Skaz elements in I. S. Turgenev's narration

Бесплатный доступ

I. S. Turgenev actively used the possibilities of first-person narration in his works. Despite the peripheral nature of skaz as a type of first-person narration, when referring to it, the writer discovers additional possibilities in creating the image of the character. Skaz inclusions in I. S. Turgenev’s novella "First Love" and the story "Bezhin Meadow" reveal the whole life world of a Russian person and become a significant element of the author's characterology. By means of skaz stylization, Turgenev reflects social consciousness through the individuality of the character, his way of thinking. In the story "Bezhin Meadow" the author complicated the skaz with the features of children's discourse. This technique allowed Turgenev to come close to unraveling the Russian national character and to portray the individuality of each character.
