A case of hypertoxic schizophrenia in an adolescent

The paper describes development and course of the acute psychosis corresponding according to clinical manifestations to hypertoxic (febrile) schizophrenia in a female adolescent aged 17 years. Difficulties of diagnosis were caused by false-positive tests for tick-borne encephalitis and toxoplasmosis which were not confirmed subsequently. This was reflection of polyorgan pathology with disturbance of functions of the immunity that is typical for hypertoxic (febrile) schizophrenia. For more than 1.5 months the female patients was under artificial pulmonary ventilation. One year after experienced psychosis the female patient is fully socially adapted but there are personality changes. Conclusion. Non-described in English-language translated handbooks of psychiatry hypertoxic (febrile) schizophrenia is a clinical reality with prognosis of this pathology under efficient therapy being not always unfavorable.
