Mass media, social networks, and the arts as factors in fostering prosocial behavior in college students

This article analyzes the phenomenon of prosocial behavior and the main approaches to its scientifi c examination. The importance of its development in the younger generation in both the family and the educational environment of a higher educational institution is substantiated. This article addresses key issues related to the development of prosocial behavior in today’s youth. The study examines the infl uence of peers on the value-based behavioral guidelines of young people, drawing on a psychological foundation. Factors infl uencing the development of prosocial behavior are examined, with specifi c examples of the productive use of a number of factors in pedagogical practice provided. The educational potential of curricula is explored, as is the importance of the involvement of higher education institution staff in this process. Films, books, and television programs featuring characters characterized as prosocial act as a factor inspiring students to perform good deeds. The article analyzes the educational potential of Russian fi lms (The Boys, The Big Break, French Lessons, Correction Class, and Diffi cult Teens), as well as foreign fi lms (Miracle, Manchester by the Sea, and Instinct). Television projects about volunteerism, public and charitable organizations, featuring individuals with active civic positions, are also highlighted. The importance of encouraging young people to use social media to organize volunteer activities, disseminate information about social issues, and support each other is noted. The purpose of this article is to examine the educational infl uence of media, social media, and various forms of art on the development of prosocial behavior in college students.
