Based on preclinical data, numerous clinical trials are currently investigating the integration of radiotherapy and immune checkpoint inhibitors in the treatment of advanced or metastatic solid tumors. However, a number of questions remain unanswered, such as the choice of an adequate radiotherapy delivery technique and consequently of targets for its implementation, the sequence of radiation and immunotherapy implementation, the identification of biomarkers that can identify tumors and therefore be most sensitive to specific immunotherapy, and biomarkers that can predict the possible occurrence of severe toxicity after the combination of immunotherapy and radiotherapy. The article highlights the current status of the issue of combining high-tech conformal radiotherapy and modern immunotherapy in the specific antitumor treatment of malignant tumors with a focus on the use of immune checkpoint inhibitors.
