In the context of increasing and deepening sanctions that have affected all regions of Russia, most of them demonstrate the ability to adapt and develop in new conditions, relying on the federal support, ten-year experience in functioning of the economy under sanctions, business initiatives and the experience of population variability in complex conditions. The article concludes that the prospects for the socio-economic development of the regions largely depend on the institutional environment that supports the process, the combination of the federal and regional efforts to ensure the effectiveness of anti-sanctions measures, as well as the ability of the regional economy to innovate. The socio-economic development of Russian regions under sanctions is a complex and ambiguous process. On the one hand, sanctions slow down, and on the other hand, they accelerate the development of the region. The restrictions and challenges faced by Russian regions require effective and adaptive strategies, searching and retaining new markets, attracting domestic investment, and achieving sustainable development.
