Social and psychological characteristics of S. V. Rachmaninov's creative activity in the context of the Silver age

The article examines the social and psychological characteristics of the creative activity of the brilliant Russian composer, pianist, conductor S. V. Rachmaninov. The authors analyze the pre-revolutionary stage in the work of Rachmaninov and his life in emigration, reveal an organic combination in his character and work of devotion to the Motherland and universal human ideals. Until the end of his days, he followed the traditions of Russian musical culture, remained a faithful follower of the composers of the Mighty Handful, P. I. Tchaikovsky, S. I. Taneev, A. S. Arenskii. The article shows the influence of the culture of the Silver Age on the character and creativity of Rachmaninov. The analysis involves the memoirs of Rachmaninov’s contemporaries and his own memoirs. It is shown how the mental qualities of the Russian people manifested themselves in his musical works, where love for the native land is combined with universal responsiveness, the search for the meaning of life and faith in God.
