The article analyzes the impact of socio-extreme conditions caused by the COVID epidemic on the social status and adaptive forms of life of disabled people in the capital's metropolis. The analysis is based on the results of a sociological study conducted during 2018-2022 in two stages: “before” and “during” the COVID-19 pandemic. The article reveals the interpretation of the category “disabled population”, its structure, the specifics of behavior during forced social isolation and self-isolation; socio-psychological mood caused by the spread of the pandemic as an extreme factor in life expectancy. The social status of disabled Muscovites is studied as a reflection of the influence of an extreme factor in the context of the development of a pandemic, its evolution, the transition to the final stage and the stabilization of the situation in the metropolis, approaching the normal mode of urban life.
