Social well-being and perception of the future by the Belgorod youth

The paper is based on the results of the monitoring of social well-being of Belgorod residents conducted in August 2017 by means of a questionnaire. The authors examine the problem of dissatisfaction of the young people with the urban environment and the social sphere. Young Belgorod residents were asked to assess the overall situation in the city, their own living conditions and demonstrate the confidence in their future. The data obtained during the survey shows that the main problems of the youth are low incomes and employment difficulties. In addition to financial problems, the young people are concerned about the poor quality of public utility, problems in medicine, education and unsatisfactory relations with the officials. This has a negative impact on the index of satisfaction of the young citizens with life in general and their confidence in the future. Based on the monitoring findings, the authors recommend the local self-government authorities to develop and promote the mission of Belgorod that is the city of opportunities within the specific projects (the opportunities of employment, welfare, the high-quality medical, educational, cultural and other services).
