Social service in professional training of university students

This article examines the content and role of social service as a relatively new approach to the professional training of university students studying in the areas of social work and psychological and pedagogical education at the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education «Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University». Social service is an integral part of professional practice that goes beyond the traditional understanding of social work or social pedagogy. As a rule, social service is considered from two positions: religious studies and social. The novelty of this article lies in the authors’ attempt to analyze the role of social service in the professional training of students. Examples of students’ inclusion in professional activities through social service are presented. The purpose of the article is to analyze the role of social service in the formation of a student’s personality, his civic position and professional competence. The authors found out the students’ attitude to social service, the degree of understanding of its significance and the connection with their future profession.
