The article presents the results of a sociological study to identify attitudes towards children with disabilities as one of the socially vulnerable categories of the population, conducted by the authors in 2022 in the Arctic territories of the European part of Russia (n = 861). The research issue stems from the need for children with disabilities to be included in social interactions and all aspects of life necessary for the formation of a child's personality and his or her adaptation in society. However, currently there are many social barriers that create obstacles to the process of inclusion, among which a special place belongs to attitudinal barriers due to the specific perceptions and experiences of the subjects. The aim of the present article is to identify the emotional attitude of citizens toward children with disabilities in modern society as a factor contributing to the formation of inclusion or exclusion. Identification of emotional barriers will facilitate the search for ways to expand the field of inclusion and mechanisms to integrate people with disabilities into society.
