Social capital and adaptation of South Korea migrants in Russia

The study is devoted to the consideration of the interconnection of bridging and binding social capital with the sociocultural and psychological adaptation of South Korean migrants residing in the territory of the Russian Federation. Social capital includes social connections and networks that allow people to interact effectively with each other for achieving common goals. R. Putnam highlights the bridging and bonding social capital, which function as interaction within the ingroup and outgroup, respectively. The purpose of this study is to test the hypothesis that the bridging and bonding social capital of South Korean migrants is associated with their sociocultural and psychological adaptation, correspondingly. The study involved migrants from South Korea living in Russia (N = 222). It was shown the types of social capital have a positive correlation with the adaptation of South Korean migrants in the Russian Federation, and significant links between bonding social capital and psychological adaptation and between bridging and sociocultural adaptation have been revealed.
