Sociocultural modernization: theoretical and methodological conceptualization of the phenomenon in a regional context

This paper analyzes the sociological approaches to the phenomenon of modernization with an emphasis on its sociocultural component. Sociocultural modernization is conceptualized as a theoretical construct, which forms the field of norms, values, and behavioral attitudes within social institutions, and as a socio-political phenomenon that can transform the sociocultural space of Russian regions through the modernization of existing sociocultural practices. Difficulties in the practical implementation of modernization transformations are explained not only by political, economic and other objective factors, but also by deeper worldview and mental characteristics of the population. Regional specificity is characterized by the example of the South Siberian region, where there is a contradiction in the minds of the local population regarding the results of modernization transformations in the sociocultural sphere. Overcoming such contradictions, in our opinion, is possible through the coordination of values and cultural patterns of the main actors of the sociocultural space.
