The article interprets the city as a multifunctional system. The main scientific and philosophical approaches to the study of the sociocultural space of the city are presented. A number of physical, social and environmental aspects of a sustainable form of an urban polyfunctional system are presented. The author presents the grounds within which it is possible to add an aesthetic aspect to these aspects, on which the formation of the urban space as a complex system also depends. It is shown that the polyfunctionality of the urban sociocultural space and the degree of aesthetic attractiveness of the environment reflect the level of its quality for city residents, and also solve the problems of population density. The interrelation between the aesthetics of space and the psychological stability of its inhabitants is presented. It is emphasized that the embodiment of the multifunctional concept of urban space in practice allows to optimize the functional efficiency of the city and the comfort of its environment.
