Sociocultural factors that prevent distribution of contactless drug sale in traditional societies (on the example of the Republic of Nicaragua)

The rapid transformation of the criminal drug market into the form of illegal electronic commerce requires the search for effective means of deterring drug crime. Unlike other countries in the Latin American region, the criminal situation in the Republic of Nicaragua does not reveal the introduction of a contactless model of sale of prohibited substances. Based on the author’s study of the experience of the National Police of the Republic of Nicaragua, as well as the generalization of sociological and criminological research data, an identified list of factors of sociocultural significance that prevent distribution of the forms of criminal activity in the field of illegal drug trafficking while using information and telecommunication technologies is proposed. The main factors include the stability of vertical and horizontal social ties of the Nicaraguan society, cultural distrust of anonymous interaction, limited migration mobility of the population, the archaic structure of street crime and the features of the institutional police model focused on public support.
