The paper presents the results of research on the affective component of envy. The invariant and variant emotional states inherent in the actors of envy-dislike and envy-despondency are defined. Common experiences include resentment, shame, concern, anxiety, uncertainty, and frustration. Private emotional states are manifested in the fact that the actor of envy-dislike feels negative emotions mostly towards the superior other person while the actor of envy-despondency has a negative attitude towards oneself. The research analyzes the relationship between envy of different subject areas and the integrative indicators of positive and negative affects. The study demonstrates that the most complex emotional state is experienced by the actors envying the social status of the other person and its material benefits (negative emotions are aggravated, and positive ones are suppressed). The preservation of positive emotions with the growth of negative ones is a characteristic of actors being envious of a highly developed personality having the successful family and interpersonal relationships. The emotional background of the actor tended to envy other people their youth does not change.
