The article is devoted to one of the central concepts of Russian philosophy - Sobornost, which largely determined the socio-philosophical ideals of Russian society in the 19th-early 20th centuries. The authors analyze the content of the notion of “sobornost” in the philosophical views of the poet and theoretician of Russian Symbolism - Vyacheslav Ivanovich Ivanov, whose works had a significant impact on art, culture and ideological quests in Russia in the late 19th-20th centuries. Ivanov’s multi-faceted cultural and artistic activity is supplemented by his ability to reconsider and develop philosophical ideas, giving them a new and fresh sounding. Thus, he interprets the notion of sobornost not only in socio-philosophical terms, but also in aesthetic terms. Sobornost, in the understanding of Viach. Ivanov, likens synodality to a choir, in which the voice of each singer retains its individuality and uniqueness, however, the unanimous fusion of all voices gives rise to something new - a harmonious sound that exists only at the moment of its coordinated performance. The publication was prepared on the occasion of the 155th anniversary of Vyacheslav Ivanov's birth. In the context of Ivanov’s work the author reveals the peculiarities of the understanding of “synodality” in the social-philosophical views of the philosopher.
