Soybean in the foothill zone of Kabardino-Balkaria

The average weather data over many years (1970-2010) of the foothill zone of Kabardino-Balkaria from May to September is shown. The results of long-term study of soybean, a highly effective forecrop for winter wheat, as compared with corn and sunflower, are given. Test results of the soybean of different varieties of domestic breeding in demonstra-tional trial in 2011 marked Slavia, Alba (maturity group 04), Selekta 201, Selekta 101 and Bara (maturity group 03) as superior to standard varieties Vilana and Lira by 1.5-4.5 and 1.9-2.9 hundred kg/ ha, respectively.
