The article examines the concept of an "official" in the context of the exercise of state power, emphasizing its importance for the legal system. The author draws attention to the lack of a clear legislative definition of the concept of "official" and its widespread use in various branches of law. Criminal law defines this concept in detail in a specific context related to the qualification of official crimes. The author discusses the relationship of the concept of "official" with other related concepts, based on the norms of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and emphasizes the importance of a person's attitude to the national system of public authority. It is also noted that Chapter 30 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation establishes the procedure for the exercise of state and municipal power, and foreign officials cannot influence the national system of public power.
