The results of the analysis of the work of the Suicidological Service in Tyumen (Western Siberia) are discussed in assessing the relationship between suicide attempts and completed suicides. It is shown that the opening of the Suicidological Register in the region helped to increase the effectiveness of identifying and recording suicidal attempts. In the first year of the study (2012), the number of attempts exceeded the number of lethal cases by 5.6 times. In the following years, along with the system's improvement, there is a tendency to widen the gap, which was maximum marked in 2014 (1: 15.2) and 2016 (1: 13.7). On average, in 6 years this ratio has become to equal 1: 8.5. An increase in the number of cases of suicide attempts contributed to an increase in the number of people receiving the necessary volume of psycho-correctional care. This was a factor in reducing suicide mortality in Tyumen by 3.8 times - from 25.2 in 2010 to 6.6 in 2017 (per 100,000 population). In conclusion, the authors conclude that the traditional beliefs of a 5-10 fold prevalence of attempted suicides have been confirmed in the course of the research, and this method of approximate calculation of the amount of parasuicides can be used in regions that do not have other possibilities for an epidemiological evaluation of the suicidal situation.
