Comparative study of spatial metaphors of the concept of "Ethics" in Russian and Chinese languages

Бесплатный доступ

This article presents a comparative analysis of spatial metaphors related to the concept of "ethics" in Russian and Chinese languages. Spatial metaphors play a crucial role in the conceptualization of moral categories, shaping perceptions of moral values and norms through spatial imagery. The study reveals that both languages predominantly employ vertical orientation, where high morality is associated with elevation, while immoral actions are linked to descent. However, in addition to vertical metaphors, the Chinese language extensively utilizes the concept of center and deviation from it, reflecting traditional notions of harmony and social stability. The analysis is conducted using a cognitive-discursive approach, conceptual analysis, and a comparative method. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of spatial metaphors in linguistic worldviews and may be valuable for further research in cognitive linguistics, intercultural communication, and foreign language teaching.
