Comparative analysis of affixational word-formation of adjectives in the Lezghin and English languages

The article deals with the results of contrastive analysis of affixational word formation of adjectives in the Lezghin and English languages, identifies productive and non-productive means, analyzes semantics of derivatives and the word-forming bases in each of the two languages, reveals the multifunctional character of some suffixes. The analysis of the word formation of adjectives in the Lezghin and English languages allows us to conclude that affixation is equally actively used as a method of word formation of adjectives in Lezgin and English languages; along with suffixation, a wide use of prefixation is also specific for the arsenal of tools of adjectival word formation in the English language; derivative adjectives in the Lezghin language are formed by suffixal way from the stems of nouns and adverbs, besides, in the English language simple adjectives can also serve as word stems.
