Comparative analysis of the zoonym "cat" in Russian and Persian proverbs and phraseology

This article presents a comparative analysis of the zoonym "cat" in Russian and Persian proverbs and phraseology. This analysis reveals similarities and differences in the cultural contexts in which this zoonym is used. The cat, as an animal, is a subject of observation and association for both nations. Russian and Persian expressions related to this zoonym reflect different character traits and associations. In the Russian language, the cat is associated with resilience, magical danger, small quantities, melancholic states, pitiful appearance, senseless actions, cunning, guilt, conflicts, and unfriendly relationships. In the Persian language, the cat is associated with resilience, ingratitude, unreliability, cunning, hypocrisy, agile adaptability, care and etc. Traits like resilience and cunning are common in both languages. Both languages use the cat as a symbol and metaphor, but in different contexts and with different meanings.
