Competitiveness as a Professionally Significant Quality of an Athlete

Introduction. The relevance of the study of athletes’ competitive activity is associated with the quality of competitiveness of the athlete, because the quality of competitiveness formed in the athlete largely determines the success in solving problems in competitive activity. The objective is to define the structure of the quality of competitiveness and characterize its components. The object of the study is competitiveness as a quality of personality, significant in competitive activity. Materials, Results and Discussion. The concepts of competitive activity and psychological preparation of athletes for competition formed the methodological basis of the study. Competitiveness is presented as a complex personal formation including the following components: motivation, emotions, thinking, volition, and intelligence. Conclusions. Increasing the level of formation of psychological competence of an athlete will ensure actualization of the received psychological knowledge and skills in competitive activity.
