Cattle breeding and its development prospects in the Kyrgyz Republic (1990-2017)

Cattle breeding plays an important role in the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic being the main source of income for the local population in many regions of the country. The study examines the changes in Kyrgyz cattle breeding in 1990-2017, describes its status, development prospects, and livestock production situation in the Kyrgyz Republic in the above-mentioned period. The research analyzes the productivity and output of cattle-breeding products in different categories of Kyrgyz farms by comparing data on state and collective farms with information on private households, including private farms and household plots. The study reveals the benefits of state and collective farms in cattle productivity. In the author’s opinion, the problems of the livestock industry resulted from miscalculations made during denationalization and privatization of collective and state farms in the Kyrgyz Republic. The recovery of cattle-breeding farms and their extensive development have been examined since 2000, and the reasons for the production collapses have been determined. The cattle identification system has been introduced in the Kyrgyz Republic within the EAEU; it has become an essential factor in improving food security. The analysis of the changes in the cattle-breeding farm development in Kyrgyzstan in 1990-2017 was based on the data of the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic and archives.
