The status of modern standard Arabic in Egypt

This article attempts to analyze the status of Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) in Egypt. Particular attention is paid to some of the historical events that influenced MSA. Moreover, in this paper we tried to study general features of the country's language policy, namely its main actors, positive and negative sides. Additionally, the results of surveys about personal attitude of Egyptian citizens to MSA are also given. It should be noted that the status of MSA today raises a number of concerns because of the growing influence of Egyptian dialects and foreign languages.
