Clinical manifestations of neurogenic bladder dysfunction (NBD) have a significant impact on all aspects of life - social, family, professional and sexual. Sexual function is one of the fundamental components of quality of life, including emotional calm, social interaction, self-esteem and confidence. According to the literature about 70% of people from the general population consider normal and stable sex life extremely important. Thus, the aim of our study was to investigate the quality of sexual function in patients with neurogenic detrusor hyperactivity (NDH) at the background of treatment using botulinum toxin type A (BTA). The study involved 119 patients with urodynamically confirmed NDH. All patients underwent a standardized examination that included: urodynamics including uroflowmetry, cystometry by filling/ emptying, profilometry of the urethra; analysis of the urinary diaries. Depending on the sex of patients testing using the questionnaire "Index of female sexual function” (FSFI) or the “Scale of quantitative assessment of male copulative function" (MCF) was carried out. NBD, independent of the severity of the disease, was accompanied by a decline in the quality of life in patients of both sexes, affecting also a sexual function. The most pronounced changes in the sexual sphere were observed in patients with OAB in the presence of imperative urinary incontinence. Improvement of the all indicators of the sexual sphere was confirmed at the background of improvements of urodynamic characteristics in men, regardless of the severity of the initial disease, however, despite the symptomatic improvement of NDH, in women sexual function remains at lower levels compared to men.
