Collaboration of F. M. Dostoevsky in the publications of M. N. Katkov

The article deals with the history of a long (more than a decade and a half) the collaboration of F. M. Dostoevsky in the journal “Russki Vestnik” and the newspaper “Moskovskie Vedomosti”, published by the recognized leader of the conservative press of the last third of the XIX century-the publicist M. N. Katkov. The reasons that brought the writer and the authoritative journalist closer together are revealed. It is noted that Dostoevsky’s participation in Katkov’s conservative publications was due to the commonality of their positions on a number of socio-political issues. It is indicated that the writer and the authoritative journalist were united by the desire to preserve traditional Russian values, respect for Orthodoxy as the spiritual basis of the Russian nation, rejection of nihilism and vulgar materialism, critical attitude to the West and the system of liberal European values, the belief that social harmony and peace should be based not on destructive, but on creative principles. Dostoevsky’s participation in Katkov’s publications was also facilitated by comfortable publishing conditions and a convenient payment system.
