The paper gives a brief description of the consequences of the impact of aircraft and aviation infrastructure on the environment. Attention is drawn to the importance of forming, developing and improving environmental knowledge and skills of all actors of the civil aviation ecosystem in connection with the rapid development of this type of anthropogenic activity. To solve this problem, the authors suggest from the point of view of a competent approach, however, with an emphasis on the concept of “skills of the 21st century". The key objectives of this concept are being actively promoted by the competition toolkit, which is just beginning to be integrated into the Russian professional education system. The authors consider the essence, goals, objectives, and guidelines of professional skills competitions and conclude that this tool is also advisable to be adopted as an active means of organizing, implementing and improving environmental knowledge and skills in the system of training of aviation personnel. When planning such an initiative, it is recommended to take as a basis the material developed by the WorldSkills Russia Union under the environmental pro-tection competence.
