The article substantiates the actuality of the use of contemporary children's books as "a major media textе of the culture" for the creation an information area for young people; emphasizes the particular role of the school library in the media educationand introduction the children and adolescents to information culture; approved the importance of the contemporary Russian children's literature; suggests methods for its study on the media education lessons.
