The current description of "breed" concept is discussed. The classification of breeds and evaluation of their genetic structure are proposed. The few biological features of breeds and species of agricultural animals were considered. The facts of a variety of species and breeds in Russia, the trends in development of cattle-breeding and the principles of preservation of animal's biore-sources are presented.
