The article deals with the problem of training the students of the technical universities as the future intellectual and productive leaders of the region in the interests of the high-tech companies. There are revealed the peculiarities of training the competence based specialists who are able to solve the urgent tasks of the production and have a wide range of competencies that allow to form the engineering elite, including the definite specialization: researcher, entrepreneurship, developer, technologist, and etc.
