The article is devoted to analysis of modern Russian culture. The author attempts aimed to identify the causes of crisis, which is experiencing national culture. The article also deals with the definition of “great Russian culture”, identifies the epistemological roots of this notion, proves its inaccuracy. The use of this term in the context of assessing the contribution of Russian culture in the global cultural heritage, the author believes it is incorrect and biased. Russian culture belongs to human culture through its belonging to the European culture. The article also addresses the question of how in Russia in a denial of the values of the party and ideology in scientific, cultural and spiritual spheres of life of society relationship between artists and the ruling political elite are built.
