Since Russian culture, with respect to the principles of political correctness as a language behavior, is guided by Western patterns of usage, adopting them together with the cultural tradition, it is important to trace the formation of the so called “tolerant vocabulary” regarding physically challenged people, including those with disabilities. The authors of the paper explore the methods of fulfilling the principle of political correctness at the lexico-semantic level in the texts of modern Englishspeaking media publications, dealing with the topic of disability and limited human health. The authors highlight current trends in this discourse: rethinking the concept of disability (“disability / HVD”) as a new identity, using the vocabulary that implies overcoming human health limitations in naming the groups of people with disabilities, using the lexical unit special needs in the educational context exclusively. The texts of articles written in English feature a large number of euphemisms because of their traumatic subject. The authors propose their classification, including a new category of naming people with disabilities, based on mentioning the appropriate ways of how they overcome their challenges. Variants of translating politically correct vocabulary from English into Russian are proposed to reflect its specificity. The linguistic aspect of this research is to make a positive contribution into the concept of equal rights of people with disabilities and those with no impairments.
