Modern engineering education: problems and prospects

The relevance of this topic is due to fundamental changes in global scientific knowledge, as well as local socio-economic changes in Russian society. The purpose of the work is to describe the transformations taking place in our country in modern engineering and technical education in the context of permanent reform of the higher education system. To achieve this goal, an analysis of federal state educational standards of higher education (engineering specialties) of different generations was carried out. Using the method of generalization based on the study of scientific literature on the problem of engineering education, the author received answers to questions about the features of the construction and development of the content of engineering education; transformations taking place in modern Russian education; innovative functions implemented in the process of engineering education; the influence of the interaction of universities and enterprises on the development of training of engineering students. The state-centric nature of educational policy is noted. Institutional, structural and functional changes in domestic education are described. The importance of the innovative function for a future engineer is established. The author also analyzed the monitoring of the quality of education conducted in one of the transport universities in Russia, identified the difficulties faced by different participants in educational activities (students, teachers and future employers) - lack of practical classes (for students), insufficient material and technical equipment of the university (for teachers) and the lack of soft skills in graduates (for employers). The analysis allowed us to conclude that a modern engineering university needs to seek and organize horizontal and vertical links with enterprises, which will attract innovative resources necessary for the successful implementation of the educational process in the context of constant social and scientific and technical reforms.
