Contemporary aspects of ethnic textiles in interior design

The review article considers the possibilities and options for using artistic textiles in a modern interior. The characteristic features of ethnic styles in the interior of different countries and continents are presented (using the example of African style, Asian style, style of the Middle East and Central Asia, style of Latin America, European style). The varieties of ethnic style are defined, common characteristics of different ethnic styles formed in historical (traditional) regions are revealed, the main use of textiles depending on the purpose of the room is indicated: for residential interiors and public spaces. Technological innovations in modern textiles are considered. The authors come to the conclusion that in the context of developing trends in national selfidentification, one way or another in a modern interior one can find a lot of varieties of ethnic style: a) its exact copy, where the features of the interiors of a given culture or nationality are embodied to the maximum extent; b) a mixture of different styles hybridity or cultural mix; c) the incorporation of certain motifs or accents from a particular style, most often seen in wall decor, textiles, accessories, or furniture. Despite the diversity of fabric production techniques, preference is currently given to biodegradable and organic textiles. Plantbased textiles have become a way of expressing the concept of responsible consumption or "slow fashion" (reducing the negative impact on the environment).
