Modern aspects of the transformation of the reading culture of students

The article outlines the modern aspects of transformation of the students' reading culture. They are presented on the basis of conclusions of the sociological study “Transformation of students' reading culture”, conducted in 2021 in Moscow. Currently, this culture is undergoing another modification caused by the process of digitalization of public life. Replacing the reading of a literary text with informational reading leads to a narrow practicality in relation to the process under consideration and discredits its socializing function. The value of the book as a means of solving life problems among young people is being questioned. The paper notes the tendency to minimize intellectual efforts when reading among the younger generation. The number of students-carriers of the traditional culture of reading is sharply decreasing. In the conditions of digitalization, reading began to perform two main social functions - informational and relaxation.
