The article substantiates the positions of the theory and methodology of library work with children and youth as an independent discipline in the system of library and information sciences. Current problems of theoretical and methodological support of library work with children are associated with the advanced response of science to the development needs of the younger generation. The article reveals the need for new theoretical research that takes into account the impact of Informatization on children's reading. Contradictions between information practices of children and adults, the nature of their response to the modern information environment are revealed. The article analyzes the risks of the modern information space of childhood and youth, the transformation of the priorities of the "librarian - reader" relationship, and the rejection of differentiated services for children and youth. The positions and significance of children's reading in the information infrastructure of society are determined. The goal is to ensure continuity of children's and youth reading practices.
