Modern Approaches to Enteral Nutrition in Critically Ill Children

Despite significant advances in medical technology, providing effective enteral nutrition in pediatric intensive care units remains a challenging task. Selecting the appropriate composition of nutritional formulas, methods, and administration regimens requires consideration of numerous factors, including individual patient characteristics and clinical condition. The main methods include the use of nasogastric and nasojejunal tubes, gastrostomies, and jejunostomies. There are various approaches to organize enteral nutrition including the use of standard and specialized nutritional formulas. The article analyzes current approaches to enteral nutrition in pediatric intensive care units, including administration methods, formula compositions, and feeding regimens. The analysis has demonstrated that individualized approaches based on patients’ clinical needs contribute to improved clinical outcomes. At the same time, it emphasizes the necessity of implementing standardized clinical nutrition protocols in intensive care practice.
