A modern vector of development of the Donetsk Botanical Garden

The paper shows the contribution of the Donetsk Botanical Garden to implementation of the main mission of the botanical gardens worldwide in plant conservation, scientific research and educational work. New modern trends of its development are outlined, caused by the complex social and economic situation in Donbass. It includes maintenance of the research potential of the institution and simultaneous enhancement of new work directions to become an environment-oriented educational and entertainment center for promoting scientific knowledge and social rehabilitation of the local population. The paper exemplifies the use of traditional forms of educational activity and original developments. Traditional forms include participation in the educational process, lectures, and thematic excursions. Among new trends is the program of advanced professional training «A school of gardening» and the interactive project «A garden of science» aimed at the popularization of everyday research practices of the departments and laboratories of the botanical garden among schoolchildren.
