The specific role of phraseological units with proper names in the English language

The article deals with indigenously and borrowed phraseological units containing Proper Names. The author describes their meaning and specific role in the English language. The results of the conducted analysis enable to conclude that Proper Names within a phraseological unit comprise national and cultural information; the sources of Proper Names in phraseological units are different; phraseological units with Proper Names are closer to people, more understandable, evoke more associations. The greater part of borrowed phraseological units goes back to antiquity, due to universal character of Proper Names in these units, they could be considered as units of translingual level.
